Having some serious problems with Thai airways.

Nothing over 20kg and thats your lot i am afraid.

What really pees me off is golfers get an extra 14kg free.

I was quoted "we have to save the enviroment" wondered when that gem was being wheeled out!!!

I have booked to vist Greece with Thomas cook in May - 10KGS extra costs 20 + 2 admin fee, you have to request this in advance with the airline.

Also booked dominican in Nov with First Choice who allow you 10KGS free of charge if you notify them in advance.

I have also thought to hide my gear in a golf bag but I think your right we wouldnt get away with it.

Singapore Airlines

This doesnt sound too bad until they tell you that the cost is 30 per kilo (ie a total of 180). If you go over the 15k then you get hit with 30 per kilo for the lot.
Guess this drops them into the depths of the 'unfriendly to diver' catagory!
It's now risen to 40 per kilo (240 between 6 and 15kg over weight) which is definitely unfriendly. Especially if you want to bring your kit home too. I don't know how rigorously this will be applied but 480 pays for a lot of kit hire.

Korean Air

Just booked a flight with KoreanAir to Cebu, Philippines. I normally fly with Qatar Airways but got stung by them for excess baggage last time and couldn't get the dates I wanted this time.

I was booking it through an agent and got a quote for £669.00 but I put that on hold and spoke to KoreanAir directly to see about an allowance also.

They quoted me £655.10 and also because I spoke to them nicely give me an extra 15kg.

Normal baggage 20kg + 15kg extra + 12kg hand luggage = 47 kg

I did pay a bit more than I would pay with Qatar but at least I can have a beacon sandwich and a beer on the stop over this time.

General Advice
There are hand baggage restrictions on flights from the UK. See the DfT for the latest details: http://www.dft.gov.uk/transportforyo...irportsecurity
Airlines have a habit of changing the rules at the drop of a hat. ALWAYS check the latest situation via phone or website. ALWAYS take a printed copy of the website with you, cos the check-in staff WILL deny all knowledge of the extra allowance. If you have to pre-book the allowance by phone, ALWAYS ask for confirmation in writing, and get a contact name & telephone number in case of problems. ALWAYS have your C-cards to hand at check-in. Some tour operators will have negotiated a special deal for divers with the airline, so you should check with them. As usual, ALWAYS get details in writing. Be aware that connecting flights may be with different operators, and that different rules may apply.

they tell me 20kg max. , no diver allowance and 40 per kg excess to fly to Bali(each way). Hates divers I think.
